GMTC Policy Points

When you buy a product from a GMTC member you can be sure that:-

The products are manufactured to an ISO 9002 quality system or better, as all members hold either ISO 9001 or ISO 9002 accreditation. Each member’s QA system is checked by more than one body.

All glands and accessories conform to the relevant parts of BS 6121 where they are in its scope.

Industrial glands comply with the Essential Safety Requirements of the Low Voltage Directive. The gland's packaging is CE marked accordingly. All necessary supporting information is held by the producing member.

The products are manufactured in the UK.

You can obtain a complete range of products from GMTC members, who also manufacture a complete range of sizes with a vast array of threads. GMTC members do not just make the popular types and sizes.

You will receive all necessary technical and commercial back-up. The companies supplying these products are dedicated specialists. The members’ expertise has developed over a period of over 40 years. You can be certain that you are not just dealing with a component manufacturer who is turning a hand to gland-making to fill capacity.

Members can supply all necessary documents and data and prepare these products for export. Complete product data can be supplied on request from any GMTC member.

The products are at the forefront of current practice. The GMTC helps write relevant British and European standards and is also represented at the EIC, BEAMA, the EECS QA Committee and other important bodies.

GMTC - Accept No Substitutes.

The GMTC has a range of policy objectives:

Obviously it exists to promote both its members’ interests and those of the UK gland industry generally. It provides a forum where matters affecting the members and the industry are discussed. Its main functional role is to help create standards for the industry. The prime subsidiary role is to allow the airing of opinions from members on commercial and mercantile matters.

GMTC members oppose and are prepared to take action over anti-competitive practices such as illegal subsidies, below-cost dumping of products and any form of exploitation in manufacturing, including the use of child labour (see below). Members will also consider taking any necessary action against manufacturers who infringe their design copyrights or patents.

They also oppose any practices damaging to health or the environment and any false claims of compliance to standards. It will do what it can to ensure that products making their way on to European markets are safe, are made from materials of an acceptable quality and meet relevant European legislation.

The GMTC members are of the view that anyone foolish enough to try to defend the use of child labour using the tired old argument that “without jobs, children have nothing to do but roam the streets” should ask themselves whether they would also use the same argument to defend child prostitution. If children have nothing to do, that is the fault of their government - and in the members’ opinion, they should be in school. The GMTC members are aware that one manufacturer has been foolish enough to publish - IN HIS CATALOGUE - a series of photographs showing children working in his cable gland factory. This is an example of the kind of practice the members are opposed to.
